Privacy Policy

Draft, awaiting legal review
This is a working draft. It has not yet been reviewed by an attorney, and it will be before Hey Fremont opens to the public. The rules below are what we intend to enforce, and we will enforce them from day one either way.

The principle

We collect as little as we can, show it to as few people as you choose, and never sell it.

What we collect

Your location and trip dates

Knowing who is in town is the point of Hey Fremont, but it is also sensitive: it can show when you are away from home or where you are staying. Your area, hotel and trip dates each have their own visibility setting, and you can keep any of them to yourself.

Your date of birth is never shown

It is stored so we can enforce the age rule, and it is never shown to anyone. Other members can only see a computed age, and only if you choose to display it.

Photo metadata is stripped

Photos often carry GPS coordinates, timestamps and camera details. We remove that data on upload, before the file is stored.

Who sees what

Every photo, post and profile field has its own visibility setting: everyone, members, followers, friends, or only you. Member content is not visible without an account and is kept out of search engines. These rules are enforced by the database itself, not just hidden in the interface.

Private messages

Staff cannot read your private messages. That restriction is enforced in our access rules, not by policy alone. Staff only see a message if it reaches them through a report.

Verification photos

Used once to confirm the badge, visible only to staff, then deleted. We keep the decision, not the image.

Companies that help us run the site

We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf: Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage), Cloudflare (website hosting and security) and Resend (sending email). They may only use your data to provide their service to us.

Cookies and storage

We use your browser’s storage to keep you signed in and to remember small choices, such as having confirmed your age. We do not use advertising trackers.

What we never do

Your control

How long we keep things

We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile and content, except for records we must keep for safety or legal reasons, such as reports about serious harm.

Children

Hey Fremont is not for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Law enforcement

We respond to valid legal process. We report child sexual abuse material to NCMEC as required by law. We do not hand over member data without valid legal process.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy in a significant way we will tell members on the site first. Questions: hello@heyfremont.com.
